USBC Senior Queens to cap off Senior Women's Triple Crown series

The 2012 USBC Senior Queens presented by Storm will become the first USBC championship event held entirely at the International Training and Research Center when it takes place Oct. 19-23, capping the new Senior Women's Triple Crown Series. The Senior Queens will be broadcast on BowlTV for the first time. The event is part of the Senior Women's Triple Crown Series, which includes the National Golden Ladies Classic and the Senior U.S. Women's Open.

The qualifying, match-play and championship portions of the USBC Senior Queens will take place at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas next fall. The official dates and details of special events for competitors will be available in early spring. New for 2012, the tournament will feature a stepladder championship round.

Paula Vidad remains undefeated to win USBC Senior Queens

2011USBCSQPaulaVidad3_small.jpgPaula Vidad (center) of Sun City, Calif., claimed the 2011 USBC Senior Queens title and a check for $3,500 in record fashion as she defeated defending champion Char Hammel of Las Vegas at the Oncenter Convention Center on Wednesday. Vidad put together games of 225, 221 and 269 for a 715 series, the highest championship-match score in USBC Senior Queens history, while Hammel finished with 211, 225 and 202 for a 638 set.

Hammel still has a chance to successfully defend her title after advancing out of the contenders bracket. With the double-elimination format, Hammel will have to defeat Vidad twice to claim the coveted title and $3,500 first-place prize.

Defending champion Char Hammel is one of eight undefeated players at USBC Senior Queens

2011USBCSQCharHammel_small.jpgChar Hammel (pictured) of Las Vegas, the defending champion at the USBC Senior Queens, is following a path similar to last year's event in El Paso, Texas, and she's getting more and more comfortable with each successful round. Hammel is one of eight undefeated players remaining in the winners bracket after victories against three-time Senior Queens winner Sandra Postma of Lansing, Ill. (643-587) and Roberta Havholm of Dayton, Ohio (665-617). Match play continues Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. EDT.

Dana Miller-Mackie leads going into match play at USBC Senior Queens

2011USBCSQDanaMillerMackie_small.jpgUSBC Hall of Famer Dana Miller-Mackie (pictured) of Albuquerque, N.M., was extremely ill during the second round of qualifying at the USBC Senior Queens, but battled back to take the lead after three rounds Monday. Miller-Mackie finished with a 3,278 total for 15 games to edge out second-round leader Patti Schultz of Braidwood, Ill., by two pins (3,276). The top 32 finishers now will enter the double-elimination match-play format.

Patti Schultz moves into lead at USBC Senior Queens

2011USBCSQPattiSchultz2_small.jpgA few physical adjustments and a new mindset helped Patti Schultz (pictured) of Braidwood, Ill., into the second-round lead at the USBC Senior Queens on Sunday. The 53-year-old right-hander also started the day in 16th place, but averaged more than 232 on the way into the top spot with a 2,193 total for 10 games at the Oncenter Convention Center. USBC Hall of Famer Dana Miller-Mackie of Albuquerque, N.M., is second with 2,178, while opening-round leader Cynthia Johnson of Bowie, Md., is third with 2,159.

2011USBCSQCynthiaJohnson_small.jpgWhen Cynthia Johnson (pictured) of Bowie, Md., planned her trip to Syracuse for the USBC Women's Championships, she had no intention of staying in town to compete in the USBC Senior Queens. Luckily for Johnson, her friends and teammates had enough confidence in her abilities to talk her into staying, and she's now the first-round leader at the Senior Queens with a 1,128 five-game total at the Oncenter Convention Center on Saturday.

Char Hammel ready to defend USBC Senior Queens title

Hammel dethroned defending champion Janine Primrose (r.) of Gardnerville, Nev., in back-to-back matches to capture the coveted title, and the victory was her most memorable bowling moment. The Senior Queens gets underway with 10 qualifying games on April 23 and April 24.

Char Hammel wins USBC Senior Queens

2010USBCSQCharHammel_small.jpgChar Hammel (pictured) of Las Vegas defeated defending champion Janine Primrose of Gardnerville, Nev., in back-to-back matches Wednesday morning to win the 2010 USBC Senior Queens title. Hammel came out of the contenders bracket with one loss for the right to face Primrose for the title. As the undefeated player, Primrose had to lose twice in the title match. Hammel won the opening three-game total pins match, 590-554, to force a deciding match, which Hammel easily won 705-520.

She remained undefeated in match play for the second straight year and will face Char Hammel of Las Vegas in the three-game total-pinfall finals. With the double-elimination format, Hammel will have to defeat Primrose twice if she is to claim her first Senior Queens victory.The finals of the USBC Senior Queens will be live streamed on BOWL.com starting at Noon EDT.

Janine Primrose (pictured) of Gardnerville, Nev., developed a knack for finding herself behind in matches during her run to the 2009 USBC Senior Queens title, and she has continued to fight her way back to victories at the 2010 event at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center. Finding herself down going into the final game of her first and second round matches on Monday, she rallied with games of 245 and 247 to defeat USBC Hall of Famer Nancy Fehr of Cincinnati, 613-567, and Melody Felton of Colfax, Iowa, 653-635, respectively.

2010USBCSQDanaMillerMackie_small.jpgUSBC Hall of Famer Dana Miller-Mackie (pictured) of Albuquerque, N.M., led the final round of qualifying for the Senior Queens rolling 3,445 for her 15-game total, easily topping the old record of 3,147 set by Lucy Sandelin in 2009. Miller-Mackie paced the field by nearly 200 pins. The top 31 finishers along with 2009 champion Janine Primrose of Gardnerville, Nev., will enter the double-elimination match-play format. The final spot in match play went to Terri Cooley of Danville, Ky., who finished at 2,843.

2010USBCSQDanaMillerMackie_small.jpgDana Miller-Mackie (pictured) of Albuquerque, N.M., set the USBC Senior Queens 10-game qualifying record Sunday as she took the lead after two rounds of qualifying. Miller-Mackie, a 16-time women's pro tour winner, shot 2,287, an average of 228.7, at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center and easily surpassed the old record of 2,097 set by Sharon Powers in 2008. Miller-Mackie had games of 229, 206, 279, 235 and 209 for a 1,158 total to add to her first-day score of 1,129. The top 39 players advanced to Monday's final five-game qualifying round.

Patti Schultz sets USBC Senior Queens record to lead after Round 1

2006USBCSeniorQueensLogo.jpgPatti Schultz of Braidwood, Ill., had the highest five-game block in USBC Senior Queens history as she took the first-round qualifying lead Saturday. Schultz shot 1,171, an average of 234.2, at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center to top the old record of 1,117 set by Lucy Sandelin in 2009. All 101 players in the field will complete their 10-game qualifying Sunday before the field is cut to the top 39 for Monday's final five-game qualifying round.

Primrose, of Gardnerville, Nev., hopes to become the first woman to win back-to-back Senior Queens titles when the event for bowlers age 50 and older kicks off Saturday, April 24 at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center in El Paso, Texas. The championship match will be broadcast live on BOWL.com April 28 at Noon EDT.

Janine Primrose remains undefeated, wins 2009 USBC Senior Queens

2009USBCSQJaninePrimrose2_small.jpgJanine Primrose of Gardnerville, Nev., came back from an early deficit to defeat Dana Miller-Mackie of Albuquerque, N.M., in the championship match of the 2009 USBC Senior Queens at the National Bowling Stadium on Wednesday. Primrose, who was the only undefeated bowler leading up to the final match, bowled games of 164, 233 and 231 on her way to a 628-598 victory in the three-game, double-elimination match play finals. She received $3,000 and a tiara for the win, while Miller-Mackie took home $1,700.

2009USBCSQDanaMillerMackie_small.jpg United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Dana Miller-Mackie (pictured left) of Albuquerque, N.M., was the only so-called headliner to survive the first two rounds of match play in the 2009 USBC Senior Queens undefeated Monday. Miller-Mackie, bowling in her first Senior Queens, barely escaped her second match, nipping unsung Sue George of Middle Island, N.Y., 183-170, in a one-game roll-off after they tied at 648-648. Miller-Mackie was the only one of the five USBC Hall of Famers and three past champions to win her first two challenges as the Senior Queens entered its three-game, double-elimination match play finals.

Sandelin paces USBC Senior Queens qualifiers

2009USBCSQLucySandelin_small.jpgLucy Sandelin (pictured) of Tampa, Fla., is the top qualifier for the match play finals in the 2009 United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens, finishing the qualifying portion of the tournament at the National Bowling Stadium on Monday with a tournament record 15-game total of 3,147. Sandelin, who won the 2007 Senior Queens, led a field of 31 women ages 50 and older into the three-game, double-elimination match play portion of the event Monday afternoon. Defending champion Sandy Postma of Lansing, Ill., rounds out the 32-player match play field.
